Ronald Stride
President

Ron is active in business, community and charitable organizations in Singapore and serves on several boards of directors. He spent his business career at Booz Allen Hamilton, the management consulting firm. He retired in 2000 after serving as Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Asia and as a member of the firm’s governing board. Ron is a graduate of Providence College. He is a frequent guest on CNBC and Bloomberg. Ron and his wife, Janet, have resided in Singapore for more than 20 years.

David Boden
Vice President

David and his wife Nancy moved to Asia over 15 years ago. Hailing from New York City, they started their expat life in Jakarta Indonesia before moving to Singapore in 1999. A Retail and Consumer industry professional David ran an Indonesian consumer group from 1996 to 1999 and then switched into consumer goods and IT consulting after moving to Singapore for Deloite Consulting and for Accenture. Consulting led to IT with progressive roles at Oracle, HP and now Microsoft. David and Nancy have two wonderful daughters, aged 10 and 12, who are at SAS. When David is not selling IT he is either with his family or playing with the well-known expat rock band Mid-Life Crisis as co-founder and lead guitarist.

Shelly Dee
Treasurer

Shelly lives in Singapore with her husband and four children. In Singapore, she sits on the Board of the National Museum of Singapore and on the Executive Committee of the American Association of Singapore Board. In addition, she is a Board Member of the Hoglund Foundation in Dallas, TX and of Semester at Sea in Charlottesville, VA. Outside of her Board commitments, she studies Mandarin full-time. Before living in Singapore, she lived in London where she was on the development board of the Natural History Museum, in Hong Kong and in Houston where she was on the board of the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the junior board of MD Anderson. Shelly is a graduate of both Harvard Business School and of the University of Virginia. She is an avid art collector and has her collections displayed in multiple museums, including the Asian Civilizations Museum in Singapore.

Deirdre Ball
Secretary

Deirdre moved to Singapore in 1982, to set up the regional headquarters of a computer company. Since then she has acquired a wealth of experience in marketing and management, having worked in financial services, insurance, media and advertising. She has held the position of Senior Vice President at Citibank in both Singapore and London, following a number of positions in sales and consultancy at the Financial Times, Reader’s Digest, and TIME amongst others. Currently she provides consultancy in marketing. She is a graduate of Regis College, in Massachusetts, USA. Deirdre has participated in a number of charity committees, whose main focus is to assist children - something that she is very passionate about. A mother of four she enjoys scuba diving and organizing events.

Paul Kocourek
Director

Paul has been a board member for the last one 1/2 years. He is a retired senior partner from Booz & Co and is now a social entrepreneur with a focus on rural development in developing Asian countries. He has lived in Asia and Australia for most of his adult life including Japan, Thailand, Australia and Singapore. He has four children ranging in ages 15-31. His wife, Lisa Muller, is a long-time Singapore resident.

Chris Muessel
Director

Chris is a partner with the law firm of Rajah & Tann LLP (the 2nd largest firm in Singapore), and was previously a partner in two other international law firms based in Singapore, for which he headed up their Indo China practices. He has extensive experience advising global companies on matters related to cross border M& A, international trade, project finance and cross-border commercial law. Before moving to Singapore, Chris worked for law firms in Vietnam, Japan and the US, and was seconded to the World Bank to advise on banking and commercial law reforms in Mongolia and Cambodia. He is a graduate of Colorado College and Georgetown University.

Deborah Sawyer
Director

Deborah is an Executive Vice President of the Singapore office of Sandler Training®, a leading provider of a comprehensive set of sales, management, leadership, coaching and related training programs. A veteran of executive search for nearly 25 years, she has had the honor of leading several major, global client relationships during the course of her career. Having worked throughout the Asia Pacific region, she recognizes the cultural nuances and diversity issues that are prevalent in today’s sales organizations and works with her clients to make these differences assets instead of liabilities. She is passionate about helping people realizing their potential through training and coaching. Deborah has an MBA from Georgia State University and a BA in International Affairs from Florida State University.

Glenn van Zutphen
Director

Glenn joined the American Association Board in 2011 as the Publications Governor, overseeing the Singapore American Newspaper and the Living in Singapore guide. He owns VanMedia Group, a Singapore-registered media consultancy offering corporate media & crisis training, freelance journalism and corporate video production. In 25 years as a professional journalist, he has lived in the US, Japan, Switzerland, Hong Kong and Singapore while working for the likes of CNN International, USA Today, ABC News, NHK and others. A native of Chicago, Glenn and his wife, Kat, have lived in Singapore since 2004. They have two children, Kate 5 and Max 2.
