An interview with Bryony Whitfield, who plays Baby Houseman in the show Dirty Dancing - A Classic Story On Stage.
What do you think about the stage version of Dirty Dancing?
Loved the stage version when I saw it in the UK. There is also something so special about it being live. There is this intoxicating energy that you can't get from a film.
Have you seen the original film of Dirty Dancing?
Yes! First watched it as a young child and can remember the lift, the music and Baby's curly hair.
Tell us about your role in Dirty Dancing
I play Frances 'Baby' Houseman, who is a 17year old naive girl who has come to Kellerman's resort on a family holiday. She is extremely positive and has a fun, geeky side to her.
What have been your greatest challenges when preparing for your role?
I was faced with the exciting challenges of the American accent and playing a character who is not classified as a dancer. I've never done an American accent before and I am a trained dancer. Baby becomes a dancer throughout the course of the show. It's allowed me to challenge and explore my acting abilities.
Have you performed in Singapore before or is this your first time?
It will be my first time performing in Singapore and I cannot wait! I have heard such amazing things about it and can't wait to explore too!
Dirty Dancing - A Classic Story On Stage comes to the MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands from May 28, 2013.
