In October, Pangdemonium will be commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Broadway rock musical, RENT, one of the most celebrated musicals of all time. When it was first released, RENT took Broadway by storm, winning the Tony for Best Musical, Best Book, Best Original Score and more.
Set in New York’s gritty Alphabet City, the story follows a group of friends who, despite poverty and illness, learn to fall in love and find their voices. Under the shadow of HIV/AIDS, their dreams and losses weave through the musical’s narration to paint a stunningly raw and emotional portrait of the bohemian world of the 1990s.
In light of the musical’s celebration of diversity and inclusion, United States Ambassador to Singapore, Kirk Wagar will be chairing a post-show panel discussion at the Drama Centre Theatre following the musical on the show's main themes.
Other panelists will include:
Adrian Pang, Artistic Director of Pangdemonium and members of the cast of RENT
Daniel Le, Manager, Outreach Programme from Action for Aids and a person living with HIV
Leow Yangfa, Executive Director at Oogachaga, a community-based counselling, support and personal development agency for LGBTQ individuals, couples and families
