Our community has the opportunity to support our servicemen and women on a deeper level. As you may know, the USS Liberty, the first littoral combat ship of the US Navy, has been stationed in Singapore for a period of 8 to 10 months. While in port, the 60 or so crew reside on board and have limited access to internet and the attractions of Singapore.

Their schedule is confidential and can change at a moment’s notice, so running the regular hosting program has proved fairly difficult. The sailors also have noted that, even when they have liberty and can get into town, Singapore prices quickly chew up their US-dollar pay.

Therefore, the Home Hospitality program would like to maintain a roster of local hosts here that are willing to be contacted a few days in advance by email to host a sailor or two, or perhaps give some guidance to visiting families. This list would be provided to the person in charge on the ship, and the sailors will contact you directly at the email provided.

If you are willing to be contacted to host one or more of these of sailors during the next few months, please reply to Home Hospitality indicating:

1. your name(s),

2. your email

3. your telephone numbers(s),

4. Any date limitations (e.g. not in Singapore from 15 to 30 Aug)

Also, if you would care to donate any activity vouchers from companies such as Groupon or Deal.com.sg, the sailors would appreciate local sightseeing or perhaps even restaurant vouchers that they or their families can use. Please ensure the voucher can be used by a guest and has not expired.
