Toys for Tots
Each year since 2011, the American Association joins forces with the U.S. Marines to host a charitable and festive family event benefiting the Toys for Tots program. Children and adults have loads of fun while collecting a bounty of toys to be distributed as Christmas gifts to needy children in Singapore. This event is a wonderful way to share with your family the joy of giving to others while you are living in Singapore.
Toys for Tots began in 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks and his wife Diane realized that there was no organization that provided toys to underprivileged children. That year, Major Hendricks and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles, California collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. The project was so successful that the Marine Corps adopted Toys for Tots in 1948 and expanded it into a nationwide campaign. All these years later and Toys for Tots is still going strong! Over its life span, the Marine Toys for Tots Program has distributed over 548 million toys to over 251 million less fortunate children. This is a highlight of the AAS winter holiday season and we are proud of our partnership with the U.S. Marines.
