AAS Memorial Day

Join AAS for an incredibly special Memorial Day tour and lunch!

2022 is an important year in Singapore’s history as it marks the 80th anniversary of the Japanese invasion and the start of their 3.5-year occupation of Singapore or,  as it was renamed by the Japanese,  Syonan-To.

We are partnering with Jane’s Singapore Tours to run a World War Two tour on May 28, as part of our Memorial Day event.

The tour will be led by Joe who himself is a veteran of the Singapore Armed Forces. The tour will start at Dempsey Road, an important landmark in our island’s military history.

From there, we will travel by coach to Bukit Batok to see the site of the Syonan Chureito, after which we will visit the nearby former Ford Factory where Singapore's surrender took place which now tells the story of the invasion and occupation.

We will next go to the landing beaches in Kranji to see for ourselves where the main thrust of the invasion happened.

Heading East from there, we will drive through the Seletar area, first developed as the main site for the Royal Air Force in the 1930s and still an aviation hub.

The tour's final stop is in Sembawang where the British's prestigious Naval Base was located. Today, it is still a major shipping center. There, lunch will be served at the US Navy's Terror Club, named for the ship HMS Terror which was originally built in the mid-1930s to provide rest and relaxation to officers assigned to the ship. 

You have a choice of either a Cheeseburger or Veggie Wraps along with a choice of one side: french fries, sweet potato fries, coleslaw, steamed vegetables, steamed rice, tater tots or a side salad.

Transport will be provided to take guests back to Dempsey after lunch.
